The Most Popular Shaped Glazed Windows for Your Inspiration
Although the sky is definitely the limit when it comes to choosing your preferred window shape, not all of them are as practical (or as aesthetically-pleasing) as you think. Hence, there are only three types of window shapes to choose from:
- Triangle – You’ve probably seen at least a couple of triangle gable windows at least once in your life. Popular among homeowners housing an attic, this window shape is perfect for homes with gable and shed roofs. However, remember that an equilateral triangle isn’t the only way to go. For shed-type homes, opting for right-angled windows could be an excellent accent to a rather barren wall.
- Trapezoid – Albeit less common, a trapezoid window would be perfect for homes with hip roofs; also showcasing an attic, or even a high ceiling for that matter. Since they are relatively less sharp than triangular windows, trapezoidal windows can nicely blend within your exterior walls without empowering them.
- Circle – Usually found among nautical-themed houses, circular windows can be either tricky or useful depending on how they are designed. For windows large enough to have a mid-casement window, they could serve as a nice accent without sacrificing ventilation. However, for fixed circular windows, they could be quite a waste of space if located within prime orientations.
- Semicircle – A sub-type of the circular window, semicircular windows are basically half circles. Since their geometries are less tacky, they can easily be incorporated among homes with more traditional and vintage designs – even an art nouveau-styled exteriors would work well with them. However, remember to use them in moderation as an accumulation of these windows could waste a potentially wider window space.

Types of Aluminium Shaped Glazing Frames to Choose From
Like any window type, custom-shaped aluminium frames revolve around the same framing systems as the next square or rectangular frame. However, since they are customized to fit around a specific, personalized polygon, it would be best to avoid sliding casements as they won’t really fit into any customized shape. Instead, opt for awning, hopper, or fixed windows with any of the following window frames:
- Angle brackets - Typically used among kitchens, service areas, and bathrooms, angle brackets are perfect for areas that need an immense amount of passive cooling with taking up much wall space. These are basically similar as awning and hopper windows.
- Guillotine frames – Despite its quite concerning name, guillotine frames are actually a modernized version of the sash window. Since its motion is primarily directed upwards, it doesn’t take much horizontal space while creating a visual illusion of a higher ceiling.
- Pivoting frames – Similar to the pivoting door, these framing allows its windows to open sideways. While they can provide adequate ventilation, remember to place them at conservative distances – since they can bump against each other when closely located.
- Miter frames – To explain it simply, miter windows offers the opening mechanisms of both awning and pivoting, making it perfect for corner walls.

This Year’s Most Trendy Colors (for Windows)
Like any other design advice you’ll get, choosing the right colors for your home exterior need not be trendy. If possible, it’s advisable to invest in classics in choosing your window colors. This allows you to conveniently choose (and change) your preferred wall paint color – and that’s when you can follow trends.
However, if you’re planning to do the other way around, keeping your exterior walls muted will allow your trendy windows to stand out. With that, it’s advisable to start with either lighter or darker shades of your preferred color. That way, they won’t be too loud and overwhelming to look at.

The Bottom line
Although square and rectangular windows are probably what you’ll first think of when asked of basic window shapes, it’s essential to remember that it only takes a few angle tilts to spice up your otherwise bland window design. Hence, choosing something out of the box (literally and figuratively) can up your home’s visual appeal in just a few steps.
