Aluminium has a number of advantages. Performance and aesthetics can be combined with this material. Consequently, aluminium doors and windows are attractive to many homeowners as an alternative to traditional timber or uPVC doors.

In order to ensure that your home is safe, secure, and energy-efficient, you will need frames that will meet your style expectations while also keeping your home energy efficient. While picking out a set of frames that look good is easy, determining which frames can provide this type of effect can be much more challenging.

What are the advantages of aluminium?

Triple-glazed windows are also best made from aluminium. In triple-glazing, the extra layer of glass can make the window too heavy for uPVC and even timber, which can reduce its lifespan. There is no doubt that this is not ideal when you have spent extra money on energy-efficient glazing. Aluminum frames, unlike their counterparts, are capable of carrying triple-glazing over a long period of time.

Because aluminium is an extremely strong material, you can support large panes of glass with a small, discreet frame. Adding bi-fold or sliding doors to your home will provide you with a great advantage since these doors will not be affected by large, bulky metal frames.

What are the disadvantages of aluminium?

In comparison to other materials, such as steel, aluminum is unfortunately more expensive. Further, due to its inability to withstand the same stresses as steel, it is necessary to use more of it to achieve the same strength, which results in higher long-term costs.

Even though aluminum welding offers many benefits, it is still a time-consuming process. The main advantage of this metal is its lower melting point compared to other metals. This results in the material burning before melting. As a result of aluminum's high thermal expansion coefficient, welding can be challenging.

When strength is considered alone, aluminum has a better strength-to-weight ratio than steel. Because of this, steel is used in place of aluminum for projects that do not require a large weight. Additionally, aluminum is highly malleable and ductile, which makes it susceptible to denting and scratching.

Is the aluminium door waterproof?

Aluminium is a robust and durable material that creates a physical barrier between your home and the surrounding environment. In terms of material, it is highly modern, and you can be confident that it will endure for many years to come. Inherently weatherproof, aluminum doors can withstand whatever elements may be thrown at them. The exterior of these doors will remain strong under pressure, so the security of your door will not be compromised.

As a result of their strength, aluminium doors are more difficult to penetrate than uPVC and other types of doors. You will be relieved if you are concerned about attempts to force entry into your home via brute force. Aluminum doors are much harder to break through than uPVC doors, because they're durable and can withstand anything an intruder throws at them.

Do aluminium doors rust?

The advantages of aluminium frames include their strength, reliability, and resistance to corrosion. In spite of the fact that aluminum has a greater resistance to corrosion than most metals, if not properly maintained, corrosion risks can increase.

According to research conducted at both Curtin University and Monash University, corrosion is not caused by the quality of the aluminum or the installation, but by the environmental factors.

Researchers found that chloride salts can build up between dirt deposits on frames and between brickwork and aluminum, causing corrosion when they are combined with moisture.

Since the aluminum cannot form its protective layer naturally in these crevices, oxygen cannot reach them, increasing the risk of chloride corrosion. By leaving these spaces wet for an extended period of time, corrosion will further worsen.

You can extend the functional life of your aluminum door and window frames by regularly cleaning them. This helps prevent corrosion, as well as maintaining their appearance. It is also important to limit the amount of water entering the space between the frames and the bricks from your pool or sprinkler system.
