All types of homeowners are now choosing aluminium bifold doors, from self-builders and renovators to people expanding - and as these doors have so many advantages, it's no wonder.

Since bi-fold doors are so attractive, it's no wonder that they're on so many homeowners' wish lists when it comes to essential home features.

One of the only downsides to bi-folds is that there are so many to choose from. When picking bifold doors, you can select various materials, sizes, styles, and configurations, so it's hard to know what's right.

How bifold doors work and open?

A folding door works on the principle of concertina doors, folding frames, and glass panels so that they can be stacked into a small area for storage. It essentially makes the whole room feel larger.

The panels of bifold doors are hinged together and slide along runners, not like traditional french doors. You can fold all the panels at once without limiting entranceway size.

Bifold doors fold in on themselves by folding in on themselves in one direction (or in both directions depending on the case).

Bifold doors can be made both inside and outside and open inward and outward. Bi-fold doors are usually purchased with them opening outwards, so you don't have to worry about them hitting anything in your room. As long as the furniture on either side of the door has been taken into account, interior bifold doors can open either way as long as your personal preference is taken into consideration. Open the door and push gently on one side to start folding the door in on itself. Each panel is neatly stacked up when it reaches the wall, waiting to be closed.

Are bifold doors secure?

In warm countries, many homeowners prefer to keep their doors open at night so they can stay cool. Bifold security screens are mesh doors that can be installed behind or in front of an existing bifold door. Besides being decorative, they reduce UV rays, keep dust out, and improve ventilation.

Screens like these come in dozens of styles, and they're easy to install and clean, but unless you get a lot of suns, they might seem like an extravagant purchase. That's not likely in the UK.

As a plus, bifold doors look great, are super safe, and can add significant value to your home, especially if it's an old house that needs some work.

Are bifold doors expensive?

Most people talk about bifold doors when they're talking about external ones. There are different requirements for bifold doors based on where they are.

External bifold doors typically cost more because they need more features, like energy efficiency and security.

Are bifold doors energy efficient?

People care more about the looks and specifications of their bi-folding or sliding doors than the cost savings. You just have to consider your reasons for getting new doors.

Several customers are interested in upgrading their properties' aesthetic and functional aspects with the latest generation of bi-folding doors. In addition to beautiful colors, they desire a functional and modern door in design. Still, others want to save money with their new bifold door by making their house more energy-efficient. You can have both with a bifold or sliding door.

Are bifold doors worth it?

The advantages of bifold doors include excellent natural lighting and their compact nature. Bifold doors can be installed both inside and outside, creating an open feel that ties inside and outside together. We know a thing or two about bifold doors since we install various windows and doors.

Are bifold doors going out of fashion?

The ideal way to connect your home to the outside is by installing bifold doors, which can be used as a partition or to create a connecting door. If you have bi-fold doors, the color scheme and design may be outdated, and the performance may be starting to decline.

You don't have to go with bifold doors in either of those cases. Some models have more straightforward openings, so fewer parts break down over time.

You also get a better view out of different doors because they have more glass. Lastly, bifold doors are a pretty expensive investment, but there are many cheaper ones out there. That's why bifold doors can seem like the wrong choice for your house.

Can bifold doors open both ways?

Yes! Depending on the number of panels you choose, our bifold doors can open from either side, creating a central opening or slightly off-center, depending on how many you pick.

What size bifold doors do I need?

There are a lot of standard sizes of UK bifold doors. The size of the interior doors and the size of the exterior doors varies. There's a sizing convention for doors in the UK, so picking one to match an aperture is easier.

In the UK, the average height of external bifold doors is 2090mm (6.10ft) and 2078mm (6.8ft) for internal bi-folds. You can have a maximum of 6 door panels, depending on the width.
